In a village named Sundarpur, there lived a farmer. He had four sons who were all lazy and idle. As the farmer grew old, he began to worry about their future.
One day, he fell seriously ill. Realizing that his end was near, he called his four sons and said,
“I have buried a lot of treasure in our field. You must dig it up after I’m gone.”
Saying this, the farmer passed away.
After performing their father’s last rites, the four brothers started digging the field to find the hidden treasure. They dug up every inch of the land but found nothing. Disappointed and angry, they cursed their father.
As the monsoon season was approaching, the brothers decided to sow paddy seeds in the same field. The rains came, and the plants grew tall and healthy. In due time, the field produced an abundant crop with heavy grain-laden stalks.
The four brothers were overjoyed. That’s when they realized the true meaning of their father’s words. The real treasure was the result of the hard work they had put into digging the field — which led to a bountiful harvest.
From that day onward, they understood the value of labor and started farming diligently.
