The Cat and the Dog

Once upon a time, a cat was walking along the road when suddenly a huge and fierce dog appeared before her. Seeing the dog, the cat was terrified. As natural enemies, cats and dogs never get along. The cat sensed danger and ran for her life.

But the dog was quicker. Within moments, he caught the cat.

The cat’s life was in danger. Death stood before her. With no other way out, she begged and pleaded before the dog. But her pleading had no effect. The dog was determined to kill her.

Suddenly, the cat offered the dog a deal:

“If you spare my life, you’ll never have to search for food again. I’ll take care of it. Every day, I’ll bring food for you. After you’re done eating, give me whatever is left—I’ll survive on that.”

The idea of getting food without effort appealed to the dog. He agreed to the deal, but warned the cat of dire consequences if she betrayed him.

The cat swore she would keep her promise no matter what.

The dog was now at ease. From that day on, he lived off the food the cat brought. He didn’t have to go hunting anymore. He simply stayed in one place all day, waiting for the cat. The cat, too, brought food to him regularly.

This went on for a *whole month. The dog didn’t move from his spot. Due to a lack of activity, he became *very fat and lazy.

One day, the dog was waiting for the cat as usual. He was extremely hungry, but the cat didn’t show up. After a long wait, he grew impatient and went out to search for her.

Not far off, he spotted the cat—happily feasting on a mouse. The dog grew furious and barked angrily:

“You traitor! You broke your promise. Now, prepare to die!”

Saying this, he lunged at the cat. But the cat was already alert. She *ran off swiftly. The dog chased after her, but this time, **the cat was faster. The dog had become so *fat and sluggish that he couldn’t keep up. He soon collapsed from exhaustion, while the cat disappeared out of sight.

Moral:
