GREEN Olympiad, an initiative of TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute), is one of the most respected school-based programmes on environmental education in India. Launched in 1999 as the country’s first environment quiz, it has since evolved into a comprehensive platform for sustainability learning and green skill development, establishing itself as a leading brand in environmental education.
Today, the Olympiad reaches nearly 2,000 schools every year in India and abroad, engaging students from Classes 4 to 12. Its core mission is to sensitize young learners, strengthen their understanding of critical environmental challenges, and build the skills needed to shape a sustainable future.

What is the GREEN Olympiad and GO4Youth? • GREEN Olympiad is India’s first annual examination on environmental issues for school students. It is designed to test knowledge as well as educate and sensitize students about environmental and sustainable development topics. • GREEN Olympiad for Youth (GO4Youth) was launched in 2020 alongside the Green Olympiad. This is an annual MCQ-based examination for students enrolled in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). It assesses awareness and comprehension of topics such as climate change, pollution, waste management, sanitation, conservation of biological diversity and resources, forest and wildlife conservation, and sustainable development. GO4Youth is endorsed by UGC, MoEFCC, and MoE, Government of India.
What is the eligibility to participate in GREEN Olympiad and GO4Youth examination? • GREEN Olympiad: Open to students of grades 4–12 enrolled in schools affiliated with a recognized board or trust. Private coaching institutes and similar entities are not eligible. • GO4Youth: Open to college students aged 18–25 years, enrolled in HEIs in India.
How can one register for the GREEN Olympiad and GO4Youth? • GREEN Olympiad 2025–26: Only school-based registration is accepted. Schools can register either online or offline through the portal [teri-greenolympiad.com]. • GO4Youth 2025–26: Only individual registration is accepted, and registration will go live in December 2025.
What is the mode of examination? • GREEN Olympiad: Paper-based (offline). • GO4Youth: Online.

What is the registration fee for GREEN Olympiad and GO4Youth? • GREEN Olympiad: o ₹250 (inc. taxes) per student for schools in India o USD 7.50 per student for schools outside India o Minimum of 20 students per school o Schools can retain ₹30 / USD 1.50 per student for conducting the exam o An optional mock paper (in English) costs ₹100 / USD 4 per student • GO4Youth: Fees will be announced later.

What will be the examination centre? • The registered school will serve as the center. TERI will send question papers and OMR sheets in advance.
Can we change the exam date after registration? • No—date cannot be changed under any circumstances.

Paper format tests knowledge, application, and analysis through MCQs—no negative marking.
